CleanClicks connects to Microsoft Ads (Bing) via OAuth for offline conversion uploads through the Microsoft Ads API.
Prerequisites
- A Microsoft Advertising account
- Admin or Standard access to the account
- At least one conversion goal set up in Microsoft Ads
Connecting
- Go to Connections in your CleanClicks dashboard
- Select your domain
- Find Microsoft Ads in the One-Click Connect section
- Click Connect
- Sign in with your Microsoft account (the one linked to your Microsoft Ads account)
- Authorize CleanClicks
- You'll be redirected back with a success message
Configuring the Vendor
After connecting:
- Go to Configuration > Vendors tab
- Enable Microsoft Ads
- Enter your Customer ID and Account ID (both visible in the top-right of the Microsoft Ads dashboard)
- Save
Finding Your IDs
In the Microsoft Ads interface, look at the top-right corner:
- Customer ID — the top-level account identifier
- Account ID — the specific ad account (you may have multiple under one customer)
How It Works
When a visitor converts:
- CleanClicks captures the
msclkid(Microsoft Click ID) from the landing page URL - The conversion event is sent server-side to Microsoft's Offline Conversions API
- Microsoft matches the conversion using the msclkid and/or hashed email
- The conversion is attributed to the correct ad click, keyword, and campaign
Auto-Tagging
For msclkid capture to work, make sure Auto-tagging is enabled in Microsoft Ads:
- Go to Microsoft Ads > Settings > Account Settings
- Under Auto-tagging, ensure it's turned on
Without auto-tagging, there's no msclkid to capture and conversions can only be matched via email.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| OAuth fails | Verify you're signing in with the Microsoft account that has access to your ad account |
| "Needs Reconnection" | Disconnect and reconnect to refresh credentials |
| Conversions not appearing | Verify Customer ID and Account ID. Check that auto-tagging is enabled. Allow 24-48 hours for processing. |
| Wrong account connected | Disconnect, then reconnect and choose the correct Microsoft account during OAuth |
